Saturday Night's Alright (for fighting)

It's that time of year again.

Hockey season.

Tonight was the first home game for the Grand Rapids Griffins. We don't have season tickets this year, though. With work schedules and trying to coordinate when the boys are with us or their mom it was decided to not have season tickets. Instead we got a 12 game package with flex tickets. Meaning we can pick the games we want to go to.

One of our games was the season opener at home. Griffins vs. the Hamilton Bulldogs. If this season is anything like the first 5 minutes of the game it'll be a good (and winning) season.

In the first 5 minutes of tonight's game we scored 3 goals and Hamilton pulled their goalie!

The night was not without some fights and one guy really got his clock cleaned. Someone else on Hamilton's team ended up with virtually no ice time because of the length of the penalties and misconducts he got for going after a player. I think they called it instigating.

The other excitement tonight was the puck that almost took us out. A puck went airborne heading right to us. I noticed it and glanced over at Chris to make sure he had seen it (he hadn't) and then it landed in the chair in front of us. To give you an idea about the speed and force it actually cut through the fabric on the seat. Thankfully the person that was in that seat was at the concession stands otherwise he may have really been hurt. A couple inches higher and it would have hit Chris in the knee. The puck landed in this person's coat and Jim reached over real fast to grab it.

All in all an exciting start to hockey season.
